Mayor Lourdes “Baby” Cataquiz, in her welcome remarks to the participants of the Provincial Joint Peace and Security Coordinating Council (JPSCC) monthly meeting held yesterday at the San Pedro City Hall, exhorted the JPSCC officers and members not to be complacent in ensuring the safety and security of the people even with the marked improvement in the peace and order situation either in the province or in the city.
“Bagama’t bumaba ang crime rate sa taong ito, huwag po sana tayong makampante. Patuloy po tayong makipag-ugnayan sa mga kinauukulan at maging masigasig na kumilos upang tuloy-tuloy na mabawasan, at kung maaari ay mabigyang tuldok ang krimen sa ating lalawigan”, says the Mayor.
In a presentation by San Pedro PSUPT Cecilio R. Ison, Jr., the rate and number of crimes in San Pedro went down during the period January to November 2015. Crime volume in 2014 was 685 while 2015 volume was down to 601. The 2014 Monthly index crime rate was 12 while that of 2015 is 9.
The hierarchy of the PNP through the leadership of Police Senior Superintendent Florencio Salapare Saligao, Acting Provincial Director of Laguna Police Provincial Office presented their most recent and significant programs for peace and order, including recruitment of lay people to act as volunteers in crime reporting to widen citizen involvement in peace and order activities.
Aside from the usual vigilance and presence, the Police hierarchy employs methods to foster goodwill in order to win the minds and hearts of the people. According to the PNP officials, LGU’s engagements could be used to prevent and solve crimes through an in-depth analysis of data gathered.
