San Pedro City, Laguna. Mayor Lourdes S. Cataquiz will work to transform San Pedro, presently classified as a component city, into a highly-urbanized city category should she be given a second term by the constituents of San Pedro.
This she vows to do as she filed her certificate of candidacy (COC) for City Mayor of San Pedro today (October 13, 2015) at the San Pedro COMELEC Office at San Pedro City Hall. Also filing their respective COCs were incumbent city councilor and vice mayoralty candidate Diwa S. Tayao and ten (10) candidates for city councilor under the Nacionalista Party-Lberal Party Coalition ticket in Laguna.
Mayor Cataquiz and Councilor Tayao were proclaimed by LP presidential standard bearer Mar Roxas and Cong. Mark Villar as official candidates of the NP-LP Coalition for mayor and vice mayor in San Pedro during the mass induction of NP leaders in Calamba City last October 8, 2015.
In her program of government filed with the local COMELEC, Mayor Cataquiz said her urban redevelopment program for San Pedro includes: 1) a social development component to fight poverty and improve the quality of life of her constituents, especially the marginalized sector, 2) economic development component to boost the local economy through robust trade, commerce and investments promotion program, 3) environmental management component to protect the environment and natural resources of the city, and 4) good governance component to improve the capacity of the LGU to deliver basic services to the people.
Under her watch, the City of San Pedro was awarded by the DILG the Seal of Good Housekeeping Silver Category in 2014 and the Seal of Good Local Governance in 2015. In her two years as mayor, the city budget has increased closer to P1 billion level compared to only over P500 million in 2013 when she was elected to her first term.
