The Provincial Environment and Natural Resources led by EMS Senior Bernardita Daliva and Etech II, Jose Briñas Jr., conducted a ground validation for the proposed bamboo site plantation in connection to the Enhanced National Greening Program under the executive order 193 – extension of ENGP that will run until year 2028. During the meeting at the city hall of San Pedro, according to DENR, bamboo is chosen for the following reasons; great alternative as construction material thus, lessening deforestation, controls soil erosion, high rate of carbon absorption and provides livelihood in the community.
Chosen barangays from the city, especially barangays with river banks which are likely to be affected by floods, like Poblacion, Sto Niño, San Antonio, San Roque and Cuyab, will be the sites for the bamboo plantation.
City Mayor Lourdes S Cataquiz and City Environment and Natural Resources Office, led by Marilou Balba, extended their support to the program. According to Mayor Cataquiz, the city government will encourage everyone in the city from all barangays, non-government organizations and homeowners associations to join the program because of the important environmental and livelihood benefits it can produce.

In attendance during the meeting were barangay chairmen, CENRO staff and SPUR team. (January 17, 2017)
