In the monthly Laguna Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (LDRRMO) meeting held today at the Pavilion Hall of the San Pedro City Hall, City of San Pedro- CDRRM OIC Vernet Nico A. Pavino presented a series of audio-visual presentations on the best practices of their department regarding the earthquake and other disaster preparedness drills done in consonance with national and local quarterly drills especially focused on the West Valley Fault Awareness.
Ms. Bernadeth T. Lucillo, PAGASA Chief Meteorological Officer gave out La Niña update and climate outlook, effect of typhoon Lawin. She said that PAGASA and the NDRRMC was more prepared for Lawin which was stronger than Yolanda. Northern Luzon was devastated, according to her.
Lucillo also reported that ” La Niña would occur from the last quarter of 2016 up to 1st quarter of 2017 and that it happens in the Pacific Ocean and what we feel is the effect of La Niña rains near the Philippines. It means more frequent rains. Factors of concern are contained with the understanding of the full phase of El Niño. La Niña brings cooler temperature and strong winds from the east. The Pacific ocean is divided into 4 quarters. In El Niño, the 3.4 region is what affects Philippine climate.
Antonino Z. Lu from the Sta. Rosa CDRRM was declared as provincial head of LDRRM replacing Mr. Victor Rivera. San Pedro City Administrator Engr. Fil Sibulo, representing Mayor Lourdes S. Cataquiz, assisted in the declaration of the new president.
The presence and continuous assistance of the Philippine Coast Guard also highlighted the event with the leader of the group expressing their collective support to the Local City Government of San Pedro. Fulfillment of their assignment officially began just September 24, 2016. As of their time of attendance at this meeting, they have, earlier this morning, completed a clean – up in the lake shore of two barangays in the city to ease out future rescue operations of San Pedro CDRRMO.
The later part of the day was further devoted to meeting proper. All towns/cities from the first to the fourth district of Laguna were ably represented. San Pedro City Executive Assistant Aaron Calixto S. Cataquiz gave the welcoming remarks at the event while Mr. Ernesto Pagkalinawan was Coordinator and Master of Ceremonies of the program.
