Last September 17, 2016, the International Day for Coastal Clean-up, several civic organizations were led by Ms. Rose Celis of the Tourism Office to attend the ceremonial tree planting that marked the launch of “The Greening of the City of San Pedro”. With City Mayor Lourdes S. Cataquiz giving the keynote speech, the activity was done along the PNR Linear Park.
Earlier in the day, members of the organizations involved came to do their part in the planting proper. Organizations which took part in the ceremonial tree planting were the Knights of Columbus, the Kiwanis, the Rotary, and the homeowners associations. According to Mayor Lourdes S. Cataquiz, the day’s activity is a symbol of cooperation and unity, a reflection on what else need to be done and a response to the call of the times. Quoting from another quote, the Mayor said that “Today is the best time to plant trees.”
The rest of the activities that followed after the National Anthem was sung were the signing of the Pledge of Commitment by leaders , the ceremonial tree planting, and inspection visits to environs which included open spaces in Pacita 1B and 1D and the Pacita Health Center.
