22 February 2016, City of San Pedro- Alaska Milk Corporation, the highest among the Top 100 Taxpayers of San Pedro City in 2015 moved the hearts of everyone present at the Mayor’s Night by saying that their corporate responsibility is their way of helping build the nation. Such was a most fitting response to the Award of Recognition (Leadership Service Commitment Award) given to them by the City Mayor Lourdes S. Cataquiz during the awarding ceremonies in the evening at the City Hall purposely held in honor of the business sector for their large revenue contribution to the city through paid taxes. The other 99 top taxpayers, of course, received their respective awards from the Mayor.
Mayor Lourdes S Cataquiz in an earlier welcoming message cheerfully greeted the business sector, along with others and in a happy wistful manner smilingly wished that there would be Top 500 taxpayers to speak of in the future.
The religious sector, represented by the Blessed Caterina and Giuditta Cittadini Foundation under the order of the Ursuline Sisters and the Mary Mother of Mercy Home for the Elderly and Abandoned were likewise recognized for their pious works of mercy in education and service to the poor and abandoned.
Local and International Rotary Chapters received their corresponding awards. The Japanese chapter responded by saying that the award would motivate them more to do as they have done. One example is the donation of nine day care centers.
The Delos Santos Family Foundation, another benefactor, gave schoolrooms and was, thus, recognized, as well.
Dr Victorio Navarro Medrano was recognized for his pivotal contribution and successful implementation of the K-12 Curriculum, the first ever, nationwide.
The Mayor thought it fitting to affirm good character by awarding in particular, Mr Jomer T Morbos, an honest trycicle driver who, plying San Vicente area returned a bag containg money which he found lying at the center of the road. This act put Mr Morbos to center stage and the limelight during this memorable night sparsed and capped with elegant music through the classy songs of Ms Bernadette Berroya with piano accompaniment.
Fascinating were the solo renditions of John Denver’s ” Annie’s Song ” and a Filipino love song popularized by Celeste Legaspi ” Gaano Kita Kamahal” from a guest gentleman violinist from the University of Sto Tomas Conservatory of Music.
