In line with Mayor Lourdes S. Cataquiz’s intensified efforts to bring necessary health services to the people, facilities at the Jose Amante Hospital in the City of San Pedro have been upgraded: enabling major operations to be carried out. Today, January 15, 2016, a 5-hour orthopedic surgery which began from seven in the morning was done on a patient by Dr. Saud Basman, Orthopedic Surgeon. Dr. Mark Quinto was the anesthesiologist. Chief Nurse, Riah Fojas and five other staff nurses helped with surgery. The procedure involved closing up a complete fracture of the tibula, thus steel nail and screw were used to fasten the relevant bone divide. It is called osteoclasis in medical jargon; in this case involving both the tibia and the fibula. The condition was exacerbated by a year’s delay in treatment thus bone growth and necrotic tissue in the gaps had to be rid off (debridment). The patient stayed for 2 hours at the recovery room and two days at the ward after which the patient will be checked for healing until such time that physical therapy can be introduced. Meanwhile, another surgery is scheduled in the afternoon under Dr. Salvador, General Surgeon. For more information about the services offered by Jose L. Amante Hospital, please call 868-5284.
