Over 80 participants were in attendance at the New Born Screening (NBS) yesterday (November 23, 2015) at the Multi-purpose Hall, City Hall of San Pedro. The event was made possible by the Department of Health and the City Health Office of San Pedro, headed by Dr. Robert Olivarez and Head Nurse Riah Fojas. The event was facilitated by guest speaker NBS Coordinator Nadine Alyssa G. Magpantay, R.N. The screening was conducted for the newborns from November 20-22. NBS is usually done after the 48th-72nd hour of birth, but ideally 24 hours after the baby is born and is done to check if the baby has a congenital metabolic disorder that may lead to mental retardation or even death if left unchecked. City Mayor LSC visited the screening to check on the babies. The City Mayor also mentioned how New Born Screening will be included with the regular health programs with the use of  Philhealth
