Two persons died and 56 houses were damaged in Ormoc City after a magnitude 5.1 earthquake struck the Leyte province early morning of August 23, 2017. The City Government of San Pedro through the initiative of City Mayor Lourdes S. Cataquiz had extended financial aid in order to hasten the recovery of Ormoc City from the calamity. The turnover of the cheque was held last October 9, 2017 at the Sta. Rosa City Hall. Representing the City of San Pedro were CSWD head, Ms. Fatima Autor, City Councilor Bobot Berroya and City Treasurer Ms. Enelyn DS Abaigar. Ormoc City Mayor, Richard Gomez and wife Congresswoman (4th District of Leyte) Lucy Torres-Gomez personally accepted the cheque.
