16 December, 2015 – Dr Primitivo Jose Santos of the Institute of Plant Breeding of the University of the Philippines at Los Banos (UPLB), from whom hydroponics originated, trained the gardening enthusiasts of the City represented by the community leaders of the homeowners associations and barangays. This training, initiated by City Mayor Lourdes S. Cataquiz, was done today at the City Hall from 8:00 – 12:00:00 in the morning.
Mr Rogelio C. Bartolini, City Agriculture Officer relayed in the well- intentioned and well- attended training the great concern and support of San Pedro City Mayor Lourdes Cataquiz for the city’s citizens to become healthy by consuming fresh vegetables which they could grow themselves. Bartolini expressed that this training is the Mayor’s gift to the attendees this Christmas Season as this would be tied up with a livelihhod funding for the cluster groups of citizens who would pursue hydroponics in an honest- to- goodness manner. He expressed the Mayor’s instructions to have the group leaders write letters of intent to avail of the start-up resources in pursuing the hydroponics projects.
Interested parties are invited to get in touch with Ms Emma Tan of the Special Projects Office. Technical assistance can be obtained from the Staff of the City Agriculture Office.
